Rent Cell
Cell phone rentals are necessary for travelers because many countries use conflicting types of cell phone technology. For instance, cell phones that function in the United States and much of South America are incompatible with the technology used in most other locations around the world. Most other countries use GSM technology instead.
About GSM Technology
GSM stands for Global System for Mobile Communications. It is a digital technology that was originally developed in Europe. It then spread throughout Asia, Africa, and the Pacific Rim. Today, GSM is the world's leading standard for cell phone technology. A GSM cell phone that functions in Paris will also function in Johannesburg, Beijing, or Sydney.
GSM technology has many advantages. It provides excellent sound quality, high security levels for communication, international roaming, and many advanced services (such as data and fax capabilities). GSM phones need a SIM card in order to function. SIM stands for Subscriber Identity Module. This card determines your cell phone number, rather than the cell phone itself. Every time you change your SIM card, you will get anew cell phone number.
If you need to rent a cell phone for travel within your country or its neighboring countries, you must rent an AMPS mobile phone. There is another option for cell phone rental if you are traveling outside your country and neighboring countries. Satellite phones are the only cell phones that can function anywhere. However, their main disadvantage is that they only work properly in open, outdoor areas. At Phonerental, we can provide you with a cell phone that meets your needs, regardless of the area in which you'll be traveling.
